This .85 acre property is triangular in shape. It borders the North Fork River along its entire northeast side. It also borders the Mark Twain National Forest along its entire west side. Access to this property is through the National Forest or from the river. Although the photo above shows a trail leading to the property we have not researched this trail. There are numerous trails throughout the National Forest. DO NOT plan on driving directly to this property! You would most likely have to either park in the National Forest and walk to the property OR put a canoe or small boat in the river and float to the property. There is a river access point called Hale’s Crossing which is about 1,000 feet down river and might be a good way to access the property. Most of the photos we have of the property were taken several years ago from the private property directly across the river (we knew the owners at that point).
The photo above is taken looking down the river. The property is on the right side of the river in this photo. We are standing on a private property on the other side of the river. The land is fairly steep down by the river and gets even steeper as you move away from the river. The southwest corner of the property is probably at least 100 feet above the water.
PLEASE print out all of the maps before making a trip to the property. Even with maps it will be tricky to find it the first time! From the town of Willow Springs take Highway 76 to the south for about 7 miles then go south (left) onto Highway 181. Stay on Highway 181 for about 7 miles then go west (right) onto County Road 278 which is a gravel road. If you stay on County Road 278 for about three miles you will come to Hale’s Crossing on the North Fork River. You can park here and put your canoe/kayak/boat into the water. Go upriver about 1,000 feet and you will see the property on the left.
Although we have not visited the property in quite a while we do have the G.P.S. coordinates which are for about the middle of the river frontage at the property. They are: 36.8837913, -92.192427.
